Prop 65
Prop 65
Consumable products purchased in California may contain the following warning:
"This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm."
This warning is required under California Proposition 65, a law that requires businesses to provide warnings when products may expose consumers to certain chemicals identified by the State of California.
Many of these chemicals are commonly found in the environment, including air, soil, and water. As a result, they may also be present in foods, dietary supplements, and other consumer products, even when they are not intentionally added.
Proposition 65 standards are among the strictest in the United States and often exceed federal and international safety standards.
For example, Proposition 65 requires warnings for lead exposure levels as low as 0.5 micrograms (mcg) per day, which is significantly more stringent than many federal and international guidelines.
The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe. Rather, the warning is provided to comply with California law and to ensure consumers are informed about potential exposures.
Customers with questions regarding ingredients, testing, or Proposition 65 compliance are encouraged to contact the product manufacturer directly for additional information.
